In the mid-80’s, Filipinos were awed with the arrival of a new child wonder. Kids of all ages duckwalked with her. She made saying the term “bow” after reciting the title of a poem seem correct (and cute). Almost every newborn female child was named after her. On 1988, her first year as a movie star, she was honored as Philippine cinema’s box-office queen.
How did she capture the hearts of many? It’s not just charm. It’s not just talent. It’s destiny. From being local TV’s Eat Bulaga Little Miss Philippines 4th runner-up in 1987 to starring in boob tube classic “Okay Ka Fairy Ko!” to her first movie starring role in “Wake Up, Little Susie” and to capturing music lovers with her big hits.
Like almost every child star, Aiza experienced ups and downs in her journey in the showbiz scene. The good thing about her is that while she’s not getting TV and movie projects, she studied at the University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music before shifting to the College of Fine Arts and Design. This was the time she pursued a career in music, singing and playing the guitar. In 2001, she scored a major hit with “Pagdating ng Panahon.”
To date, she has released nine albums and has scored at least a gold award for each of her last projects. Her biggest to date is “Pagdating ng Panahon,” receiving 5x Platinum award in 2001. The album also earned her the Best Pop Recording, Best Produced Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and the Best Female Recording Artist honors from the Awit Awards.
Aiza also forayed into the world of theater when she landed a role in the “Rocky Horror Show” in 2002. She performed in Singapore for the Singapore Repertory Theatre presentation of the stage play “Avenue Q” in 2007 and was again included in its local run in 2010.
Last year, Aiza entered the Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs contest as the interpreter for the song entry “Anong Nangyari Sa Ating Dalawa” written by Jovinor Tan and eventually won first place. This is just another feather on the cap for Aiza’s musical career.
With all the success that she has accomplished, Aiza credits her parents Daddy Dick and Mommy Caring as the people behind all her success. She is currently engaged to model and actress Liza Diño.
