Alamid’s Gary Ignacio dies

Gary Ignacio of the iconic 90’s band Alamid has passed away Friday, April 17, 2015.

In a Facbook post, Benjie Cruz (Gary’s friend) confirms the death of former Alamid frontman Gary Ignacio.

According to the post, Ignacio died at exactly 2:50pm today at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute (NKTI) due to multiple organ failure. Gary Ignacio has been battling with bone cancer diagnosed last August 2014.

Gary Ignacio has been the lead vocalist of Alamid for 17 long years. He quit the band in 2010 to focus on his family and personal life.

Alamid started in 1993 after signing a recording deal with Warner Music. They became well known for their immortal rock ballad “Your Love” which has been part of many OPM compilation albums. The band also created the hit song “Sama-Sama” and “China Eyes.”

Before becoming Alamid, Gary Ignacio together with his friend Dexter Facelo formed the band Athena’s Curse during high school. It was after they signed a recording deal with Warner that the name Alamid came out.

To those who want to pay their last respect to Mr. Gary Ignacio, his wake will be at Sto. Rosario Village Chapel, Brgy. Baritan Malabon City.
