After years of being a notable name in the independent music scene, Autotelic has posied to become the next big thing in the pop music scene as they released their debut label under MCA Music titled “Papunta Pabalik.”
The much awaited album, contained 10 tracks, including the carrier single “Gising,” a song about wake-up call from daydreaming, saving from the drowned feeling of being “too good to be true” in love.
The six-piece band called their music “Iyak Sayaw” – a fresh and very modern sound but blending with the 80s or 90s vibe.
Asked on how does he felt to be signed by the major label, here’s his response: “The moment we were signed by MCA Music, the feeling did not sink in immediately. We were all processing our thoughts and never have we imagined becoming an artist of a major music label. ”
For Villena, “Papunta Pabalik” is considered a personal gem, depicting the experience and journey, and most of the songs – which penned by the vocalist – were based on true experience. “As I move forward and go on with my life, I always look back to the past.
Papunta Pabalik features Autotelic’s new tracks such as “Languyin,” a song about facing and accepting all the challenges you encounter when you want to achieve something, whether in life or in love; “Unstable,” a song depitcing an unstable relationship between two people, but end up being inseparable. Another new song Hanap, is described by Villena as “about pagigising sa umaga’t mapagtanto na siya pa rin ang gusto mo at nais mo siyang makita.”
“Misteryoso” was the band’s very first written song.
“Close You Eyes,” talks about not giving up on yourself, while “Dahilan” is about on the verge of giving up on relationships and even had a real flavor as Villena explained it was inspired by a personal experience.
“Mapa” is about seeking for inspiration from your loved ones, while “Balik” is looking beyond age and having regrets in the past.
Autotelic described the recording process as very fulfilling despite getting stressful at the same time. Compared to their release of independent album, this time, the recording process was more planned. And working with someone they barely know well helped them a lot.
“Before we stepped in the recording studio, we made sure that each song was properly plotted out and that each member had a significant role,” said Josh Villena. As much as possible din, dapat kumpleto kaming lahat tuwing session.
Autotelic is a six-piece Filipino pop/rock band comprised of Josh Villena (guitarist and lead vocalist), Kai Honasan (Keyboards and vocals), Neil Tin (guitars), EJ Edralin (synth), Timothy “Pabs” Vargas (bass guitar) and Gep Macadaeg (drums).
The album “Papunta Pabalik” is now available in CDs at leading Astroplus and Astrovision and through digital downloads via Spinnr and iTunes and streaming also at Spinnr, Apple Music, Spotify and Deezer.
