Vincent de Jesus has played numerous poignant roles in theater and in movies. From an annoying yet entertaining role as an assistant director in Extra to his touching role as a gay and loving father to John Lloyd in the movie The Trial. Ironically, the roles mark more than the name. But De Jesus is more than the actor.
Come September 24, 2015 at 8:00pm, Cultural Center of the Philippines will feature De Jesus in the Triple Threats: The Composers , at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino. The event according to CCP is “an intimate concert featuring the dark, melancholic and whimsical music of multi-awarded lyricist-composer-musical director, Vincent De Jesus. Songs from his 32-year career in theater, television and film will take center stage performed by some of today’s finest theater actors and singers.”
In the music scene, most of the time no one pays too much attention to the composer, the lyricists or even the librettists. But De Jesus, who is also an award-winning musical scorer, composer, musical director, librettist and music teacher, is one of the music industry’s geniuses that are breaking this barrier.
De Jesus’ works span three decades and have brought both the movie and theater industry to life. De Jesus is the soul of Original Pilipino musicals in the country. In fact, his latest offering this year, PETA’s Kung Paano ako Naging Leading Lady is a manifestation that De Jesus is the force needed to create a successful and lively theater industry in the country.
De Jesus earned his degree in Music and majored in piano and voice at the University of the Philippines in Diliman. Some of his works are songs for the musical plays, Zsa Zsa Zaturnah Ze Muzikal, Kung Paano ako Naging Leading Lady; musical scores for the movies La Visa Loca, Angels, Crying Ladies and Santa Santita. De Jesus worked in various projects for television, movies and theater plays. He is also a member of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and the Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (FILSCAP).
