FilipiNotes, an online community of Filipino musicians, singers and composers urged every Filipino not to belittle OPM or Pinoy Music.
The call is part of of the preparation for the Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino which will be celebrated from July 23 to 31. An open mic event is set on July 26 to be held at 12 Monkeys in Century City Mall, Makati.
In a YouTube video uploaded on FilipiNotes channel, several OPM singers like Aiza Seguerra, Dingdong Avanzado and former “The Voice” contestants Tim Pavino and Poppert Bernardas gave 10 reasons why Filipinos should sing more OPM.
And in the end of the video, all artists urged everyone, “Wag Maliitin ang Notang Pinoy.
Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino is observed to nurture an appreciation for homegrown music, in accordance with Proclamation No. 933, signed in 2014 by then-President Benigno Aquino III.
It mandates “all radio stations with musical format programs to broadcast a minimum of four original Pilipino musical compositions in every clock hour and defined original Pilipino music as any musical composition created by a Filipino, whether the lyrics be in Pilipino, English or in any other language or dialect.”
