After six decades in the music industry, Kenny Rogers bid farewell with a World Tour and a Manila stop. According to reports, Kenny is retiring to focus more on family and to be with his beloved twins.
Dubbed as the “The Gambler’s Last Deal , The Final World Tour”, the concert was held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. Our very own Aiza Seguerra pitched in for Willie Revillame who was not able to make it as the front-act due to vertigo. Seguerra sang a couple of her hits including, “Pagdating ng Panahon”.
Few minutes later, Kenny Rogers went up on stage and sang, “Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love to Town”. As expected, most of the audience in attendance are in their golden years and seeing the 77-year old Rogers gave them the high, and were very upbeat that night.
Rogers’ duet with Linda Davis, “It’s just a Papermoon” was one of the highlights of the concert. He also sang a number of his renowned melodies like, “Through the Years”, “You Decorated My Life”, “She Believes in Me”, “Coward of the Country”, “Lady” and a lot more.
Rogers’ music videos of his classic hits were also played during the concert as backdrop.The Grammy award winnine music icon is best known by Filipinos when he joined legends Lionel Richie and Michael Jackson in the “We are the World” music video in the 80s.
Before singing his last song, Rogers said he will miss the people who he considers pieces of his music venture. Filipinos’ love for Kenny Rogers was shown when the concert ended and people refused to leave without a photo or two (and even a selfie) with one of the world’s most loved music icon.
