“Die,” this is the initial response of Abra as he hits back people who think that local hiphop is dead.
Said in jest, he further explains during the MTV Music Evo press conference that hiphop is continuously evolving, and if people think its dead then probably it just depends on the taste of the listeners.
Speaking about evolution, Raymond Abracosa is one of the products of today’s evolution of technology by means of social media, as he gained popularity through Youtube. For some artists like him, this is a new way of reaching out to broader audience,
“Ngayon kasi Youtube yung bagong platform, yun na yung bagong tv, so like yung mga tao looking for visual bale yung music video gives an audio visual experience. It’s different from the music itself. The music video helps to get the song recognized, and it’s about finding the right balance; the music video does not over shadow the song and vice versa.”
He also advised the youth on the importance of education and why it is important for them to study.
“Mag-aral ng mabuti, kung ayaw niyong mag-aral, wag kayong magpapahuli. Mag-aral ng mabuti, kasi kailangan yan kahit anong gawin mo sa buhay kapag kulang ang knowledge mo, di ka makakapalag… you gotta know your rights, you gotta know how to deal with people, you gotta know a lot of stuff, so you can share the knowledge with people”
Aside from Gloc9 and Apl.de.Ap, Abra is one of the Pinoy artists who performed in the recently concluded MTV Music Evolution 2015 at Quirino Grandstand last May 17, 2015.
