Nothing’s Cold at Fifth Harmony 7/27 Tour Manila

It was midweek madness. Manila was still reeling from Coldplay’s first ever show here. There was barely enough time to recover yet the show must go on like we say.

Last April 5, the all-female American pop group Fifth Harmony held their first concert at the Mall of Asia Arena for the Philippine leg of their 727 World Tour. While most likely to still be reeling from having seen Coldplay the night before, the girls held their own and definitely wowed the crowd.

The show was kickstarted by a capella group The Filharmonics. The group is comprised of 6 Fil-Ams who gained attention via the show “The Sing-Off”, aired majorly in the U.S. last 2013 wherein they made it to the final four. However, it was their participation in the cult hit “Pitch Perfect 2” where they played a capella group (what else, duh!) Manila Envy wherein they made quite an impact on the audience they now currently enjoy.

And when time came for the girls to start their own show, they opened it with one of their massive hits, “That’s My Girl”. Shrieks filled the arena as the curtain literally dropped to reveal the girls standing on stage, ready to fire it all up. Lauren Jauregui spoke shortly to the crowd, enough reason to fill it with loud cheers. It was a back to back hit as they performed their debut song “Miss Moving On” followed by their first top 40 hit “Sledgehammer”.

Sometime in the middle of the show, a heartwarming moment ensued between members Dinah Jane and Normani Kordei as Dinah congratulated Normani in her recent stint in the TV show “Dancing With The Stars”. Notable as well that Normani flew in to Manila on the day of the concert due to said prior stint, whereas the other 3 girls arrived altogether days earlier.

Notwithstanding the departure of member Camila Cabello late last year, the group gave their Philippine Harmonizers a night to remember as they wrapped their show with the triple whammy hits “Flex”, “Worth It” and “Work From Home”.

Their first ever tour in Asia kicked off March 23rd in Japan and wrapped up in Singapore April 8th.

And this may be a few months early but, happy 5th anniversary, 5th Harmony!
