Last May 27, hundreds and most likely it even reached thousands of young (and the not-so-young) flocked to the World Trade Center for the Manila stop of YouTube Fan Fest 2016 or YTFF.
The night has brought together some of YouTube’s most popular creators. Hosted by radio DJ Justin Quirino and singer Nicole Asensio (formerly of all-femme rock band, General Luna), the night was started by Mr. Super Selfie himself, Gab Valenciano.
It was then followed by AJ Rafael showing off his charm whilst singing and playing the keyboards. Young singer Tanner Patrick, with his country-boy charm and armed with a guitar quickly followed suit with a couple of songs. Funnyman Mikey Bustos provided a break with his song numbers and showed clips of him giving Connor Franta a little tour of Manila and a taste of halo-halo too. Speaking of Connor, he probably got the biggest number of fans in said fest, as proven with the shrieks and banners. The young writer/vlogger played a small game of How Well Do You Know Connor Franta with 3 lucky fans winning a selfie with Connor.
The beauty that is Tiffany Alvord sweetly serenaded the crowd with some of her songs as well and afterwhich, she was put on a bit of a hotseat along with Tanner, for Lloyd Cadena’s interview segment (imagine Tonight with Boy Abunda only wacky). Said interview segment was later on joined by Wengie, the cutie Aussie-Chinese known for her lifestyle vlogs.
Philippines very own, The Filharmonic brought back music onstage, opening their set with a beatbox, no less. Alex Wassabi had his Truth or Dare segment, and might still be reeling from the dares that led to eating balut, durian and making coffee doing the hula hoop. Ah, such laughter emanated on the venue from all the antics of Alex and his bro, Roi.
Meanwhile, Bogart The Explorer wouldn’t let ‘em have all the fun of course as he had these creators form two battling teams in a game of Pinoy Henyo.
Abra then fired up the stage and it’s like the crowd have all turned into rappers as they joined him along. The night was capped off on a high note by Tyler Ward. The singer, who has headlined his own shows and has released 2 albums (a full-length one and an EP, coined the phrase “Social Media Artist”. And truly, it was a night when these social media artists, YouTube creators and all-around wonderful bunch captivated the ears and hearts of the Filipino audience.
YTFF will be making rounds in Thailand, Canada, Australia, Korea, Indonesia and Japan the coming months.
