This must be a lucky year for Filipino singer-actress Rachelle Ann Go. After getting the role of Gigi in the West End revival of the hit musical Miss Saigon, she is now gunning for her first International Theatre Award as she leads the voting for West End Frame’s 2014 Best West End Debut Award.
Opened last Monday September 8, Rachelle Anne currently leads the voting getting 30% of votes, 11% higher than the 2nd placer Willemijn Verkaik of the play Wicked.
Other nominees for this year’s Best West End Debut includes A.J. Holmes (Elder Cunningham / The Book of Mormon), Alexandra Burke (Rachel Marron / The Bodyguard), Alice Stokoe (Sophie Sheridan / Mamma Mia), Billy Harrigan Tighe (Elder Price / The Book of Mormon), Carey Mulligan (Kyra Hollis / Skylight), Cleo Higgins (Lead Vocalist / Thriller Live), Denis Grindel (Jimmy Rabbitte / The Commitments), Eva Noblezada (Kim / Miss Saigon), Harry Shearer (Joe / Daytona), Lizzy Connolly (Jolene Oakes / Dirty Rotten Scoundrels), Martin Quinn (Oskar / Let The Right One In), Matt Nalton (Nick Massi / Jersey Boys) and Michael Colbourne (Enjolras / Les Miserables)
Voting for the said award will run until 3pm of Friday September 26th with the result to be announced Monday September 29,2014.
Best West End Debut runs as part of the 2014 West End Frame Awards. Unlike other theatre awards, West End Frame only opens voting for one category at a time and combines male and female actors from musicals and plays into the same categories (where applicable). This award is a celebration of the West End’s newest talent.
Last year the Best West End Debut Award was won by international star Zrinka Cvitešić for her performance in “Once” and in 2012 it was X Factor UK winner Shayne Ward who took home the award for his West End debut in the “Rock Of Ages.”
