Song Review: Ang Saya Saya – 1:43

The new dance craze that will surely hit Pinoy masses is the song from the Filipino pop group 1:43 entitled “Ang Saya Saya“. This is one of the six musically diverse original tracks from their latest neocolonial-inspired album “#KalyePop”. Far different from their previous monster hit “Sa Isang Sulyap Mo,” this upbeat cheerful song sounds similar to a theme song from a noontime show.

The group still delivers the song in the right blend even if it sounds like a novelty piece. The chorus is catchy with a tune and lyrics that can easily be memorized. With matching dance steps choreographed by Geleen Eugenio in the music video, everyone can feel like they’re inside the studio of some variety show, singing and dancing to the lively beat. Listen carefully, some parts of the song sounds like the tune of the opening song of the longest-running gag show in the Philippines, which is not exactly a bad thing. The song, nevertheless, will make its own mark.

The song has a potential to become a massive novelty hit because it can be used in different ways and purposes such as in jingles during election campaign period, a song in a children’s birthday party, a grade school’s field demo or even just another dance craze that may be performed by DOH dancing secretary Eric Tayag for his new advocacy.
