Shanti Dope Drops Much Awaited-New Single ‘Amatz’

Coming off of his roller-coaster year 2018, rap phenomenon Shanti Dope is ready to drop a much-awaited new track. Since the release of his “Materyal” EP in December 2017, Shanti has enjoyed universal success – bringing in over 40 million Spotify streams for his smash hit “Nadarang” (with its accompanying music video garnering over 26 million hits on YouTube), touring the whole Philippines and multiple states in the US, and collaborating with OPM sensations IV of Spades, and international stars such as Krayzie Bone (of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony) and Mimi on the track “Crazy”, as well as appearing on the track “Almost Love” with singer-songwriter Sabrina Carpenter.

This 2019, Shanti is dropping what is sure to be another hit with his newest track ‘Amatz.’ The song, produced by long-time collaborator Klumcee, features what fans have come to love with the rapper-songwriter with an infectious hook and having lyrics close to his life, while also featuring a new Oriental flavor that will keep fans and new listeners wanting more. And after the year that has been, the 17 year-old showcases an evolved style, now having more hard-hitting verses to his track.

Talking more about the track, producer Klumcee says “The song Amatz’ message is about having a natural high – being one with nature, and an awareness about our environment in society, which is bombarded by synthetics and chemicals. We made a conscious effort to make it sound like a banger so that a lot of people would enjoy and feel the vibe and message behind the song.” Asked more about what is in store for Shanti this year, the collaborator says that “as always, you should expect the unexpected [from Shanti] this coming year.”

‘Amatz’ marks the beginning of a new era for Shanti Dope, and with its release, all points lead to another fiery-hot year for this young and relentless rap phenomenon.

Amatz will be available on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon on March 22, 2019, under Universal Records.

Gloc-9’s Maleta (feat. Julie Anne San Jose) debuts at Number One

OPM Rap Icon Gloc-9 continues to make his mark in the industry with yet another fresh collaboration which made its debut at the top of two iTunes Philippines charts.

The track is non other than Maleta, a collaboration with the talented singer-songwriter Julie Anne San Jose, who is also an artist under Universal Records Philippines. This marks the first time the two OPM giants are collaborating on an original track, as they have previously performed together in various television shows and events in the past. Timely too, after Julie dropped a fiery-hot performance of Gloc-9’s verse on the Parokya Ni Edgar classic Bagsakan (feat. Francis M and Gloc-9) during a spot number of the GMA-7 musical variety show Studio 7.

Prior to its release, the track was already Number 1 on the list of iTunes Philippines Pre-Ordered songs, which inevitably led to its top debut on not one, but two charts on iTunes Philippines – namely the All-Genres Chart and the Hip-hop/Rap Chart.

Talking about the song, Gloc says “Goodbye song ko ito sa rap na ginawan ko ng kwento na parang relationship sa isang babae (this is my goodbye song to rap, which I likened to being in a relationship).” Though this is in reference to thoughts about staying in the rap scene, there seems to be no stopping the rap icon from putting out fresh music that still resonates with long-time fans and new fans alike.

Maleta is released as a single ahead of Gloc-9’s upcoming EP which is expected later this year. The track will be included along with “Lagi,” a collaboration with fast-rising Pinoy rap artist Al James, which has now garnered over 4.2 million views on YouTube. Aside from this, Gloc also penned and appeared on the track “Pamaypay” with R&B singer and Tawag ng Tanghalan-alum JKris,  and has had various collaborations with Shanti Dope, which clearly indicates his support in grooming the next big acts in OPM and the Hip-Hop scene in the country.

Maleta is now available for streaming on iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon Music. Watch out for its music video soon!

Jessica Sanchez with Special Guest Martin Nievera

A big voice in her own right, Jessica Sanchez is back to perform with an edgier look and a sound that is her own. Catch up with the powerhouse voice on November 10, 2018, in her self-entitled concert “Jessica Sanchez with special guest Martin Nievera” happening at The Theatre at Solaire.

Jessica Sanchez’s story is one that begins when a shy 16-year old girl dominated the stage with a voice that can go head-to-head with some of history’s icons. It may seem like she was dealt a lucky card, but behind the curtains, it couldn’t be anywhere near the truth. “I was so young when American Idol happened,” she says. “I learned so much from the show, the people, and the experience afterward. It prepared me for what was to come, the constant hustle and hard work.”

Born from immigrant parents who have established their lives in the United States and being in one of the world’s most-watched singing competitions, one would hear many Filipinos say Jessica Sanchez was living the American dream. Some argued, however, that she was too American to be celebrated by Filipinos, adding the fact that she has never set foot in the Philippines prior to her AI stint. But it was this opportunity that helped her touch base with a part of her identity that she has yet to fully discover. “My first time being in the Philippines was for the Idol tour. I was so excited about my first trip to my mom’s homeland. It all happened so fast, but I remember it being full of amazing food, amazing people and amazing moments.” Jessica recalls.

The impact of the memories has not evaded her. In the years that followed, the Philippines saw Jessica perform on local television programs, radio shows, and held a concert for her freshman album. Her constant appearance has prompted most to wonder whether she will be back again, or maybe stay for good. Although with no certainty just yet, Jessica shares, “I try to visit at least once a year. I’m half-Filipino so I’m always wanting to learn and experience more of the culture.”

Contrary to stated prejudices, Jessica is more Filipino than meets the eye. Just like other Filipinos who quest for greener pastures under the star-spangled flag, she also fell prey to the unforgiving eyes of those who saw her as an outsider, sticking out amid fair skin, corn-hued hair and colored sights. Despite the fragility that her youth has handed, her voice set her apart – a voice that commands and resists to be contained. And just as what her Pinoy compatriots do best, she persisted with an awakened innate resiliency – a Filipino quality that ultimately shaped her. She says that times have changed, and minds are more open, especially in the business of entertainment. Truly, Hollywood has seen an influx of Filipino heritage gracing its regal red carpets. Apl de Ap of the popular group Black Eyed Peas – someone who Jessica considers as a friend – is one that has made a dent in the once highly exclusive music industry, and has at the same time, continued to wave the three stars and the sun. “It’s been harder in the past for Asian Americans to make a name in the industry, but I feel that now, it isn’t impossible.”

Believing that Filipino talent knows no impossibilities, Solaire’s Director for Entertainment Audie Gemora shares what’s special about this concert, “We were all witness to how Jessica rose above every challenge she had to face in the cutthroat Hollywood scene. Although she has found her footing in the United States, this concert will represent rediscovering her Filipino roots and bringing her beloved Filipino fans with her on that journey. The night’s performances will speak of every Filipino artist’s hustle that each must go through to make it in the music industry, and more importantly, the potential to become a global sensation.”

Now 23, Jessica has kept the momentum going, but at her own pace, “These past years have been filled with traveling internationally for events, concerts, and recordings, but I’ve also taken some time to step back and find myself as an artist.”

Her upcoming concert will show her evolution and versatility as an artist with songs that are deemed as Filipino favorites such as “I Will Always Love You”, “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going” and “I Have Nothing”, which are coincidental, among her Idol performance repertoire. This night will also see a new Jessica that’s bolder and grittier as she sings R&B songs alike that speak of her edge and vibrancy.

It has been seven years since her almost-victory. Bitter-sweet as it may sound, Jessica still feels blessed. “I am able to live my life doing what I love. I was given a platform on Idol when I was 16 and have accomplished things I’ve dreamed of, “ she says.

Even with the dominant Western look and feel brought by the land that cradled her, she continues to beat blood in her veins that epitomizes what the Filipino talent can reach and the kind of stage that it deserves.

For tickets to “Jessica Sanchez with Special Guest Martin Nievera” Concert, call TicketWorld at 891-9999.

Day 6 in Manila

Just like how most K-pop concerts would go, the New Frontier Theatre (formerly known as Kia Theatre) was already flooded with Day6 fans early October 6, 2018. Fans lined up early to get a good spot within the venue as the concert had a standing crowd setup. Having been around since 2015, Day 6 is only embarking on a world tour this year. A boy band in the truest sense of the word, as members actually do play instruments aside from singing their own songs.

The concert crowd was mostly packed with a young-spirited woman. When the show started, the crowd was right away treated to a spectacular display of lights. Avid fans of the group might probably know that the first song that the band will perform would be “Man in a Movie”. But when Jae Park, Young K, Sungjin, Wonpil, and Dowoon came out on stage to perform, it turned out to be a surprise as the audience had no idea as to what will be the intro song. And as the excitement built into the night, cheers and screams only got louder.

From their song “I Smile” to “Beautiful Feeling”, the crowd sang and grooved along with the gentlemen on stage. One of the much-awaited performances of the night has got to be “Shoot Me”, and Day6 delivered. They brought to the concert stage what the fans were teased with since the beginning of the show. The audience was already swaying along when the set list finally got to another crowd favourite, “You Were Beautiful”, Jae was almost in tears when he briefly spoke that it was the first time that he wasn’t able to sing the first verse because the Filipino fans sang it beautifully, he simply had to let them sing it.

The show was supposed to have ended after “Beautiful Feeling”, but Day 6 knew that their fans will probably ask for more. So after quite a while of hearing the crowd cheer, the band came back in tees to perform “Wish”, “Freely”, and “Sing Me” for their encore.

At the end of the concert, the five of them delivered their appreciation speeches to the crowd. According to some of the band members, they did not expect that they will do well in the Philippines. However, they couldn’t be more wrong, as their fans in the Philippines were exceptional. The Filipino My Day, as their fandom is called, could not have been more enamoured.
Day 6 in Manila was brought to us by JYP Entertainment and MyMusicTaste.

Season of Gfriend in Manila

South Korean girl group Gfriend successfully held their first concert in the Philippines which took place at the Kia Theatre. Originally slated to take place last August 19th, the concert was pushed back a week due to an incident in the NAIA runway leading to several flights being canceled and delayed. Formed in 2015, the 6-member group has steadily risen in popularity despite coming from a small music label. This is the first major concert for the group which began in South Korea last January leading to an Asian tour which comprised of concerts in Taiwan, Japan, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Thailand, and Singapore. They capped it off with concerts from September 8-9 in Seoul as the grand finale for its ongoing Asia tour.

On the day of their Manila concert, the group held a red carpet event and presscon wherein vvip ticketholders were also able to attend. They answered a few questions from fans and posed at the photowall much to the delight of the attendees. Vvip ticketholders were also invited for the soundcheck hours before the actual concert.

On to the main event, the concert started at 7 PM, divided into several concepts or “season”. The first season was called “Glass” wherein the girls performed their songs donned in military outfits. The second season was “Flower” wherein all the girls wore sky blue colored outfits and they opened this stage with an acoustic rendition of their latest single “Sunny Summer”.

A break in between seasons, there was a solo stage instead. Each one of the girls performed solo singing some of the biggest hits by other Korean artists. SinB performed BoA’s “Number 1”, Sowon performed Sunmi’s “Gashina”, Umji performed IU’s “23”, Eunha performed Gain’s “Bloom”, Yuju performed Ailee’s “Heaven” and Yerin wrapped up the solo stage with Hyorin’s “U Go Girl”.

Their third stage was called “Awake” which may very well be a coming-out-of-age theme as they wore school girl outfits giving off a fun and youthful vibe. The fourth and final stage was called “Parallel” and this time around the girls wore colorful and stylish outfits that really suited their persona. It was quite a cheerful one as well as all of them came down to and walked around greeting the Buddies, as their fans are called, taking photos and waving hellos at them. While giving their ending speech, they said that they were surprised that the Filipino Buddies were not just doing the fan chants but actually singing loudly along to their songs. Filipinos love for karaoke really did show well as their fans really did sing along to almost every song.

And after the concert which lasted for about 3 and a half hours, Gfriend was still not done endearing themselves to the Filipino Buddies as they still held a high touch event with the vvip ticketholders. Notably absent from said high touch was SinB who injured her shoulder during the concert.

At the end of the end, one can definitely say that it was the Season of Gfriend indeed. As the fervor they showed onstage was returned with enthusiasm and warmth by the Buddies. This event was made possible by My Music Taste and Source Music.
